Dr. Susan Lim - Surgery Robotics Innovator

For Dr. Susan Lim, pioneering in surgery has always occupied an important place in her heart. As the first to perform a liver transplant in Asia, Dr. Susan Lim of Singapore has dedicated her practice to developing minimally invasive surgical processes including the use of robotics. The primary focus of her surgical practice based in Singapore is to provide patients with a better surgery experience and outcome.

Dr. Susan Lim - Surgery Robotics Training

Robotic surgery procedures encourage faster recoveries by minimizing the scars and tissue damage that may be caused through conventional, open surgical procedures. Robotic surgery, using the Da Vinci Surgical System, provides the surgeon with superior vision, 10x magnified and in 3D, as well as fine tissue handling through robotic arms enabling tremor filtration. Very soon after the technology received FDA approval for use in patients, Dr Susan Lim and her team travelled to the United States to train in both Robotic systems, the Zeus, at Computer Motion Industries, Santa Barbara, and the Da Vinci Surgical System at Intuitive Surgical Headquarters in Sunnyvale, California. The Da Vinci Surgical system is currently the Robotic system of choice worldwide for Robotic surgeries. Dr Susan Lim pioneered the first robotic gall bladder surgery at the Singapore General Hospital with Professor Christopher Cheng, using the Da Vinci Surgical System.

Dr. Susan Lim's Surgery Team Pioneered Robotic Surgery In Singapore

Among many other achievements that have set the standard for surgical care by Dr. Susan Lim, general surgery using the Da Vinci surgical system was pioneered by her team in Singapore. The robotic technology, as well as other methods, is used to deal with a variety of surgeries, including abdominal, prostate, gynaecologic, cardiac diseases and cancers. The efforts of her team to further the use of technology in the medical field have attracted many patients to Singapore for surgical procedures from around the world.

Dr. Susan Lim's commitment to continued research ensures benefit to Singapore and the world as a whole as she explores robotic surgical procedures. She has published a first in the world procedure using Robotics to perform a Nerve-Sparing Axillary Dissection using the da Vinci Surgical System in the World Journal of Surgery 29 (10):1352-1355, 2005.
